DuPont residents set a new record during the DuPont Presbyterian Church’s annual food drive which benefits FISH Food Banks of Pierce County. This year, the DuPont Presbyterian Church along with DuPont Villages Community Church and Boy Scout Troup 472 collected over 6,000 pounds of food and health care items for the Pierce County FISH Food Bank. The bags and boxes of food filled the entire back and one side of pews at the DuPont Presbyterian Church. FISH is a 501 © (3) non-profit, ecumenical organization of volunteers providing food to individuals in need through FISH'S seven food bank locations. Since 1973, FISH has been providing food for Pierce County residents on a non-discriminatory basis. Their goal is to provide enough nutritious food to make three meals a day for three days. Most of their food comes from donations, however many churches and individuals provide funds so they can purchase nutritious food to fill in the gaps. In 2008, FISH food banks served more than 234,000 individuals and provided enough food to make 2,106,000 nutritious meals.
